Magdalena Abakanowicz, a Polish sculptor known for her large-scale, fiber-based sculptures, died on April 20, 2017, at the age of 86. She was one of the most important artists of the 20th century, and her work continues to be exhibited and studied around the world.

- In 2018, a major retrospective of Abakanowicz’s work was held at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City. The exhibition, which was the first major retrospective of her work in the United States, was a critical and commercial success.
- In 2020, a new museum dedicated to Abakanowicz’s work opened in Poznań, Poland. The museum, which is called the Magdalena Abakanowicz Museum, houses a permanent collection of her work, as well as temporary exhibitions.
- In 2022, a new book about Abakanowicz’s life and work was published. The book, which is called “Magdalena Abakanowicz: A Life in Sculpture,” was written by the art historian Marta Smoluk-Kwiatkowska.
